Craig,

You wrote
"...I have 3 boys at home aged 11, 3, and 3 months. If any of you out there have kids, I’m sure you know what I mean."

I'm right with you! My three boys are 8, 7, and 5 and the youngest just started all day kindergarten (my Wife was very excited about that!)

As always, I enjoy your thoughts!

Take care,

Derek

Some people count sheep as they fall asleep. I imagine what my trumpet day will be tomorrow. I plan my routines, and actually play them in my mind until I drop off!
To quote Phil Smith, "it's a blessing!"

I remember back when you quoted Viatcheslav Ekimov in your article "Trumpet Advise (from an unlikely sourse)" in regards to organization:

"Organization keeps me in good shape, and it gives me motivation. I wake up, and I know what I am going to do today. Tonight, I know what I am going to do tomorrow."

I have recently learned to not take these summer days for granted. It has become easy to plan out my days without the academic calender filled with classes and rehearsals. My practice schedule has become crystal clear in an attempt to meet temporary goals that will benefit long term goals.

Ekimov's quote mixed with your personal perspectives on trumpet practice has proven how consistent and studious our practice sessions need to be.

Another quote that rings in my ears pertaining to organization and productivity comes from a recent master class I attended:

"If you do what everyone else does, you get what everyone else gets."

Thanks for writing!
