Reviving the Oldies

September 11th, 2009 § 3 comments

One of the things involved in the site redesign that I did in late July is moving all of the old articles over into the new site. Most of them are already here, but a few haven’t made the move. I received a request for the Stamping It Out series, so those are posted below. The articles — parts I, II, and III — were originally posted 2 weeks apart, and I have left them in their original form.

I will post the others very soon. I hope you enjoy these “Oldies but Goodies” from the LivMusic Archives.

    Mr. Morris,

Thanks so much for reposting the Stamping It Out series. I am a newcomer to the site, but had read these articles a long time ago, and was hoping to get to refresh my memory.

I have one quick question. How loud do you play Exercise 3? I have heard it done anywhere from mp to ff, and would love your take on the matter.

Again, thanks so much for everything you share on this site.

    Hi Zeb,

I’m glad you are enjoying the site. I feel like #3 should be played no louder than mf. I often play it softer, but it shouldn’t be viewed as a “soft” exercise. I try to play it at a comfortable volume on the softer side, and work on smoothness, connection, and ease. I hope this helps!

    All Best,
    Craig

    Craig,

As a new reader of your blog, I’d like to request that one of the next articles that you bring back to the new site be “Dueling with Pinchas.” I’ve seen that article referenced in several posts, and am interested in reading about the endurance exercise(s) it describes.

    Thanks!

    Ben Richards
